IERQC Webinar: A Menu of Climate Adaptation Strategies for Great Lakes Coastal Ecosystems
March 30, 2023
10:00 am – 11:00 am
Location: Online
Throughout the Great Lakes region, climate change is impacting our coastal ecosystems, for example through increasingly severe precipitation and storms, rapid water level changes, and coastal erosion. Natural resources practitioners are facing decisions about how to help coastal ecosystems adapt to these changes, while also working to restore coastal functions disrupted by past disturbances. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the NIACS convened regional managers and scientists to develop a menu of climate adaptation strategies and approaches for Great Lakes coastal ecosystems. This presentation will describe the menu and how it can be used to intentionally consider climate change in coastal management projects. We will highlight examples of pilot projects that have applied adaptation strategies to their work, including a project focused on marsh bird habitat restoration in Allouez Bay, WI.
