Climate Smart Mitigation and COMET Tools

Course Description: This course will provide an overview of climate science principles, terminology, and resources, focusing on best management strategies for engaging clients in effective dialogue around climate smart land management practices.

Participants will become familiar with the current and predicted future impact of weather extremes and climate change on Wisconsin’s working lands, as well as the use of climate smart conservation practices to address mitigation and adaptation strategies to promote resilient working lands.

Participants will be exposed to verification tools and models used to demonstrate efficacy of implemented conservation practices in sequestering carbon or abating GHG emissions in agriculture, grazing, and forestry systems.

  • February 27: NRCS WI State Office Conference Room (2nd Floor), 8030 Excelsior Drive, Madison, WI 53717 or virtually via Teams *No attendance cap for folks attending virtually
  • February 28: Northcentral Technical College, Room E102, Northcentral Technical College, 1000 W. Campus Drive, Wausau, WI 54401 *50 person max attendance
  • February 29: Lyman F. Anderson Agriculture & Conservation Center, 5201 Fen Oak Drive, Driftless - Room 121, Madison, WI 53718 (Madison East Service Center location) *50 person max attendance


Please Note: To attend one of the in-person workshops, participants must also attend the virtual workshop held on February 27th. You can specify which in-person date you're interested in attending when you register for the event. Attendance at the in-person days is limited, so registration for the 28th and the 29th is not guaranteed. Christina Anderson will follow up with those selected to attend the in-person workshops.
