Schools from across the state spent a sunny, chilly spring day testing their knowledge at various stations where they participated in multiple hands-on challenges. These exams are based on four categories: aquatic ecology, forestry, soils/land use, and wildlife.
Teams identified tree species and measured tree diameters in the woods and assessed the engineering and agronomic properties of soils at the soils and land use station. They also identified aquatic invertebrates and invasive plants, as well as wildlife pelts and tracks. Additionally, they tested their classroom knowledge on written exams.
Students also had three weeks to prepare a team presentation, which provides an opportunity to join fundamental knowledge and reasoning ability to understand and articulate today’s critical environmental concerns. This year’s Current Issue: Adapting to a Changing Climate.

Team Wisconsin competes on international stage
Sun Prairie East High School embarked on an exciting journey to Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada representing Wisconsin in the NCF-Envirothon in July.
The trip kicked off with teams participating in the grand opening ceremonies and engaging in a merch trading session. On Monday, teams eagerly loaded onto buses for a day filled with training stations, returning to campus for supper and evening studies before enjoying games. Tuesday was dedicated to rigorous field tests, followed by a visit to the Irving Eco-Centre: La Dune de Boutouche, one of the few remaining great sand dunes on the northeastern coastline of North America. Wednesday brought a day of adventure in the port City of Saint John as teams and advisors embarked on a bus trip to the GenAction Expo, an event designed to bring awareness to environmental projects and careers. With Thursday came intense preparation and a night of relaxing games, as teams prepared for Friday’s oral presentations on this year’s Current Issue: Adapting a Changing Climate. The five team members included: Emma Washington, Jackson Nesbit, Daniel Reid, Mylerson Maughan and Emily Sydow. Jackson Nesbit, a senior, reflects on the team's experiences with Envirothon over the last two years. Learn more about their adventures!
