Recognizing Wisconsin landowners for their dedication conservation and agriculture

This annual award recognizes Wisconsin landowners who demonstrate outstanding achievements in incorporating conservation practices into their farming operations for the betterment of their land, water, and communities.

Winners are selected based on their:

  • Implementation of innovative conservation practices
  • Commitment to soil health and water quality
  • Leadership in community conservation efforts
  • Dedication to educating and inspiring others

2025 Award Winner: Roger Bindl, RB Farms

Roger Bindl of RB Farms in Sauk County is the recipient of our 2025 Conservation Farm Family of the Year Award. Roger's 289-acre operation showcases his dedication to conservation through no-till farming since 2010, cover crops, and rotational grazing—practices that are especially vital on his erosion-prone landscape where Honey Creek runs through the farm.

Beyond his on-farm achievements, Roger serves as President and lead farmer of the Sauk Soil and Water Improvement Group (SSWIG), actively engaging in peer-to-peer education and hosting field days and workshops to inspire others.

“You have to take care of the land so the land will take care of you.”

Celebrating Conservation Observance Day: A Legacy of Connection

For many years, Conservation Observance Day brought together conservation professionals, farmers, community members, and elected officials to celebrate Wisconsin's conservation achievements of our Conservation Farm Family Award winner. These gatherings provided invaluable opportunities for in-person connection, learning, and recognition of the farm families leading the way in conservation.

While we've evolved the format of this recognition, we remain committed to the values that Conservation Observance Day represented: celebrating conservation excellence, fostering community connections, and sharing the stories of Wisconsin's conservation leaders.
