Sugar maple “decline disease” – a threat to a Northwoods icon
August 7, 2025
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Location: Woodruff, WI
Sugar maple, our state tree, is an icon of the Northwoods. Although the Wisconsin DNR “Sugar Maple Report” tells us that bigger, older sugar maples have become more common, sugar maple mortality has increased over 70% during the last four decades. Interacting effects of diseases, insects, and climate over many years has led to widespread sugar maple “decline disease” in our forests. Join Dr. Glen Stanosz, UW-Madison Emeritus Professor of Tree and Forest Health, for a discussion of what can be done to prevent or mitigate deleterious impacts on health of this environmentally, economically, and socially valued resource.
