10:00 am – 11:00 am
Location: Virtual
Join for an engaging Café Hour with Cindy Prescott, Professor Emerita in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences at the University of British Columbia.
Cindy’s research focuses on nutrient cycling and organic matter processes in forest ecosystems, the effects of forestry activities on soil processes, and restoration of forest soils following disturbance. She has authored or co-authored over 150 refereed journal articles and 11 book chapters, and served in editorial roles for major journals including Forest Ecology and Management, Canadian Journal of Forest Research, Plant and Soil, Geoderma, and Ecosystems.
Her achievements including:
- Canadian Forestry Scientific Achievement Award (2005)
- IUFRO Scientific Achievement Award (2024)
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2024)
- She also holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Helsinki, is an Honorary Professor at Jiangxi Agricultural University, and is a Correspondent of the German Soil Science Society.
During this session, they'll explore her perspective on Perspectives: Regenerative Forestry – Managing Forests for Soil Life.
Article Highlights:
- The belowground ecosystem is a critical component of resilient managed forests.
- Fostering soil life increases the functionality of managed forests.
- Living tree roots are critical for maintaining the belowground ecosystem.
- Diverse tree species and stand stages promote belowground biodiversity.
