Join Wisconsin Lakes and Rivers for their interactive, in-person workshops taking place the day before their main convention as well as the last day of the convention. You can register for these as an add-on to your Convention registration or as stand-alone workshops. Register as an In-Person Attendee to select the workshop(s) you want to attend, or if you are attending the Convention sessions on Thursday and Friday virtually, you can choose the "Hybrid" registration and come in person for the workshop you are attending.

In this introduction to common lake algae and cyanobacteria (blue-green algae), learn what characteristics are used to identify algae and cyanobacteria. We will focus on cyanobacteria and review the environmental conditions that promote its growth to nuisance bloom levels. We will discuss health impacts of cyanobacteria toxins on animals and people who ingest, inhale, or have skin contact with them. We will also cover recreational guidelines and bloom management strategies. Please bring a hand lens or magnifying glass for hands on identification practice.
