EPA Trash Free Waters Webinar 8: Using Clean Water Act Tools to Reduce Trash in Waterways
May 26, 2022
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Location: Online
The Clean Water Act (CWA) is the primary federal law governing the protection of the nation’s waters and contains basic guidelines for regulating discharges of pollutants. The CWA establishes several programs that states and municipalities can use to reduce the amount of trash loadings into waterways. In this webinar, attendees will learn how some states are addressing trash pollution using CWA tools, including Water Quality Standards, Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), and the NPDES program and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permits. Speakers will reflect on the opportunities and limitations associated with various regulatory approaches to controlling trash in stormwater.
