Drivers and Impacts of Geomorphic Change Along Great Lakes Coastlines

June 29, 2023

10:00 am – 11:30 am
Location: Online

This presentation will provide an overview of recent research projects by the MSU Coastal Processes and Geomorphology lab related to the dynamics of coastal change in the Great Lakes region. Impacts on landforms in response to factors such as rapid lake level rise, storm events, shore ice, and human disturbance will be explored. Specific attention will be placed on GLRI-funded projects, including one at Illinois Beach State Park and another at Great Lakes National Parks. Additional projects to be discussed include exploring patterns of nearshore sand transport related to changing lake levels using unoccupied aerial and aquatic vehicles, citizen science coastal change mapping with drones, and wetland morphology and vegetation response to fluctuating lake levels.
