Climate Change Communication Workshop

February 16, 2026

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Location: Virtual

This meeting is open only to WICCI members, Climate and Health Action Together (CHAT), and LCD staff.

Communicating about climate change is a nuanced challenge. Sharing the facts alone is not enough—a multitude of social, cultural, and political factors shape people’s attitudes and behaviors related to climate change. This two-hour workshop will focus on strategies for effective action-oriented climate change communication informed by social science research. The interactive presentation will include many examples, plus brainstorming time (with a worksheet) and group discussions to apply the concepts to your own work.

The main topics covered will be:

  • Audience segmentation and why the “general public” does not exist
  • How to refer to the concept of climate change in light of political polarization
  • How to create messaging that resonates with your audience’s values and cultivates a sense of agency
  • How to leverage social norms to spur behavior change
  • How to handle misinformation and disinformation
